Is Jupiter a Good Place to Retire?
A strong choice for retirees with equity to bring, a hard one on a tight budget
Jupiter is a good place to retire if you arrive with home equity or savings, because the entry price is high: Zillow's typical 2-bedroom is about $445,324 and the typical condo about $485,200. Census data shows 24.4% of residents are 65 or older, so you will have plenty of company, and the town has a hospital, the river and beaches close by.

Retirees in Jupiter by the numbers
Jupiter's median age is 47.5, younger than Delray Beach at 51.3 but older than most of the country. About one resident in four is 65 or older, and 13.8% of homes are seasonal, which is higher than many Palm Beach County cities. That means a large group of part-year retirees who spend winters here and summers up north, alongside full-time retirees and working families.
The mix matters for daily life. Jupiter is less of a retirement town than some southern Palm Beach County cities, with fewer large 55+ condo communities. Many retirees here live in ordinary planned communities, golf clubs or waterfront neighborhoods with neighbors of all ages.

What the homes retirees buy actually cost
Zillow's home value index gives the range:
- 1-bedroom: about $279,066.
- 2-bedroom: about $445,324.
- Condo, all sizes: about $485,200.
- Single-family house: about $796,241.
Values rose 30.5% over five years and 3.2% over the past year. Condos gained 2.2%, while in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach condo values fell. For a retiree buying a condo, that steadiness is a point in Jupiter's favor, but it also means fewer discounted units.
Lower-priced options on Zillow's neighborhood list include Sims Creek at about $333,591 and Indian Creek at about $366,019. If Jupiter prices are out of reach, Palm Beach Gardens at about $696,122 is similar, while Delray Beach at about $345,071 and Greenacres at about $280,329 cost much less for all homes.

Healthcare and getting around
Jupiter Medical Center is in town, which matters more as you age than almost anything else on this page. Larger hospital systems in Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach are within a drive south. Palm Beach International Airport is the closest major airport for family visits.
Jupiter is car-dependent. Indiantown Road, US-1 and A1A carry most local traffic, and there is no Tri-Rail service this far north. If you plan to stop driving at some point, a location near shopping and medical offices along the main corridors, or a community with its own transport, is worth paying for. Ask each association what it provides.
55+ communities and club communities
A 55+ community, under the federal Housing for Older Persons Act, needs at least 80% of occupied units with a resident 55 or older. Jupiter has some age-restricted condo and villa communities, but a lot of the retiree market here is in golf and club communities that are open to all ages.
Club communities cost more than the house. Expect some or all of these:
- An HOA fee for common areas, the gate and landscaping.
- An equity or non-equity club membership, sometimes mandatory, with an initiation fee.
- Annual club dues, a food and beverage minimum and capital assessments for course or clubhouse work.
- In some newer communities, a CDD assessment on the property tax bill.
On a fixed income, ask for five years of dues history and any planned capital projects before you buy. The ongoing costs often matter more than a $20,000 difference in purchase price.
Homestead, the 3% cap and no income tax
Florida does not tax pensions, Social Security or retirement account withdrawals at the state level, since it has no income tax. If Jupiter is your permanent residence, homestead takes up to $51,411 off assessed value in 2026, and Save Our Homes then limits yearly increases in the assessment to 3% or CPI. For a retiree who plans to stay for decades, that cap is the main protection against rising taxes.
The assessment resets after you buy, so the seller's tax bill is not a guide. Snowbirds who keep a primary residence elsewhere cannot claim homestead here. This isn't tax advice; confirm residency and tax questions with a professional.
Insurance and hurricane planning for retirees
Jupiter's newer housing stock, with a median year built of 1989, helps with insurance. Houses with newer roofs and impact windows get better wind rates. Older homes usually need a 4-point inspection, and anything near the Intracoastal or the Loxahatchee River needs a flood zone check and an elevation certificate.
Your hurricane deductible is set as a share of the dwelling limit and is charged once in a calendar year, however many storms hit. On a house insured at $800,000, a 2% deductible is $16,000, which belongs in your emergency fund from the first day of ownership. If you leave for the summer, arrange who will close shutters, check the house after a storm and handle an insurance claim while you are away.
Who Jupiter fits and who it doesn't
It fits retirees selling a home elsewhere with equity to bring, who want golf, boating or beaches, and who value a hospital in town. It fits seasonal owners who want a north county base with newer housing.
It fits less well on a tight fixed budget, since the typical condo is near $485,200 and club communities add dues. It also fits less well if you want a dense 55+ community with a large activity calendar, which southern Palm Beach County offers in greater numbers. I can shortlist Jupiter communities by your budget and the monthly costs you are comfortable carrying.
